The media abroad often compares the two beauties India’s Aishwarya Rai and Hollywood’s Angelina Jolie. Aishwarya Rai is often considered the world’s most beautiful woman on par with Jolie.
The two have many marked similarities too… light eyes, fair complexion, luscious lips, amazing international fan following and of course the ’sex appeal’. Jolie has been voted time and again as one of the Sexiest and most desirable women in the world. On the contrary, for some odd reason, Aishwarya Rai lacks that kind of cult fan-following here in India.

Atleast ive not seen 'so much' of Aishwarya Rai in any other photoshoot of hers, this is quite a departure from her usual tame shots that she has done in india, when it comes for the international audience , they surely do get to see a 'lot more of aishwarya rai' then we get to see back home.

Ever since Bollywood mega superstar Amitabh Bachchan cleared his debts, he has nourished the dream of reviving his company, AB Corp.
AB Corp ran huge losses and most of its projects, be it films or the Miss World event, only created problems and could not make any profit.
With Amitabh and Abhishek Bachchan busy with their film commitments and Jaya Bachchan with running the house and politics, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai has stepped in to help the family business grow.
Through Ash, the company now is negotiating with filmmakers to restart production work.
Sources say that its first film will have Abhishek and Ash and will be most probably directed by Goldie Behl .
The company plans to launch as many as six films in the coming months.
“Aishwarya has proved herself to be a good bahu. Now she wants to help with the family business,” said a source.
Another source said, "The plan is in place, to make a movie with Abhishek and Aishwarya. Goldie has been assigned to direct this movie, and a couple of story ideas are under consideration. After the release of Drona , whichever of these scripts shapes up best, will be chosen as AB Corp's comeback into production. The official announcements will made by the end of this year."

Exhausted and jet-lagged Mrs Rai-Bachchan laughs, "I don't even want to think about what people thought of my clothes earlier and what they think of it now.
To me how I conduct myself at Cannes and how people react to me is far more important than what I wear. Cannes has always been a marvellous and memorable experience. This time was no different. It's never about the wardrobe for me. I don't focus on that at all. "

Next I was in Cannes as a jury member and that's where sections of the media formed their own jury and began to assess my dress. After that I was there to inaugurate the festival and thereafter each year as the brand ambassador for Loreal."

'I am not pregnant, ' Aishwarya, looking as glamorous as ever in a formal black suit, told reporters at a press conference at the PVR Ambience shopping mall here, on the outskirts of Delhi.

What is Billu about?
Basically Billu is a tribute to friendship. It is the story of a simple ordinary hair stylist who leads an extra ordinary life. It is about Bilas Rao Pardesi (Irrfan Khan) who is living in his village with his wife Bindiya (Lara Dutta) and two kids. Life was bitter sweet. We can say more sweet than bitter. Till one day a super star (Shah Rukh Khan) comes into their lives and everything changes. Life changes, people change, friends change, the village changes but one man does not-Billu. It is the story of true friendship between Lord Krishna, the King of Dwarka and Sudama, a poor hermit. The moral of the story is so strong that it inculcates humbleness and greatness and conveys the true meaning of friendship.
Isn't Billu a remake of the Malayalam hit Katha Parayumbol?
It is not a 100 % remake of Katha Parayumbol but a take off in my own way. The character of the hair stylist played by Sreenivasan in Malayalam, Jagapathi Babu in Telugu and Pasupathi in Tamil, is being essayed by Irrfan Khan in Hindi.
Has Katha Parayumbol also been remade in other languages?
Director P Vasu remade the Malayalam film Katha Parayumbol into Tamil and Telugu, titled Kuselan and Kathanayakudu, respectively. Rajinikanth played the role of super star in the remakes.
Where did the Tamil remake fail?
The strength of the original story was diluted when it was remade in Tamil and Telugu Besides the films also suffered because of the problem of adding additional characters. The remakes also lost their theme because of the up-scaling of Rajinikanth's role, when compared to the role of Mammootty in the original Malayalam version.
What did you do to do justice to Shah Rukh's character as the super star?
A lot of changes in the screenplay were made to suit the larger than life image of Shah Rukh Khan, though he does not play himself ,without in any way diluting the strength of the original script and as a result we have him doing as many as three item numbers with actresses like Kareena Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Priyanka Chopra.
Is it different from the usual Priyadarshan films?
The film is full of my comic touches, complete with the much loved village bumpkin characters, played by Asrani, Om Puri and Rajpal Yadav. But above all, it rekindles the Krishna - Sudama timeless friendship.
Does criticism about you being the Master of Remakes bother you?
I am not bothered when the critics dub me as the Remake Man, because the Oscar last year went to the remake version of a Hong Kong film called The Departed. My Kabhi Na Kabhi was not a remake of any Malayalam hit but an original subject written by Javed Akhtar. Do you know that all David Dhawan films have been rehashed from Bhagyaraj's hit films? I think most remakes of South Indian hits fail only because they try to make it as it is. I make it a point not to let any of my film in Hindi look like a Tamil or Malayalam film from any angle.
What is of primary importance when you make a film?
As far as a director is concerned, the approach to a film is more important and also doing justice to the film. All other things are secondary.
Which are your forthcoming projects?
I have five mega projects lined up. I am finalizing a script for a film which may star Amitabh Bachchan and Akshaye Khanna. The story is about bank robbery. I'm directing it for Percept Pictures. I am also making a horror film called Grrr! for them. I am also making the Hindi remake of Majeed Majidi's classic The Children of Heaven with Darsheel Safary, and Rituparna Dasgupta.
Have you stopped making Malayalam films?
I will return next year to Malayalam films to direct veteran scriptwriter M.T. Vasudevan Nair's next script, which would also star my favorite actor Mohanlal in the lead.
Tell me about your ambitious project Kanchipuram.
Kanchipuram is a tragic tale of pre-Independence Indian silk weavers in Kanchipuram. The story unfolds against the backdrop of the first rumblings of labor unionism in South India. The film has Prakashraj, Shreya Reddy, the daughter of the former wicket keeper Bharat Reddy, Shammu and Jayakumar in the lead. The film, using Tamil language and grammar of that period, has been produced by Percept Picture Company and Gulshan Kumar.
Wasn't your Bhool Bhulaiya a rehash of the Tamil hit Chandramukhi starring Rajnikant ?
Chandramukhi was a commercial massacre of the original Malayalam film Mani Chitra Thazhu starring Mohanlal and Shobhana which was made way back in 1981. I was pissed off when the media wrote that I was remaking a trash like Chandramukhi when the original version is even today considered classic. I had not directed the film but assisted Fazil who had directed it. The concept also was his but they killed his concept and made it into a Rajnikant style film because they wanted to cater to the masses. I made Bhool Bhulaiya by sticking to the original concept of Fazil.
In what way was Bhool Bhulaiya different from the original Malayalam hit?
Though I followed the original, I made sure that the subject suited the North audience and did not reek of nativity in any way. I had Banaras as the backdrop instead of Kerala. Chandramukhi was more of an action film. In the original version, they showed the protagonist as a split personality. However, since I am a psychology student, I took the liberty to base the story on identity syndrome.
Didn't you plan to cast Aishwarya Rai in place of Vidya Balan when you set out to remake Manichitra Thazhu as Bhool Bhulaiya?
To make Vidya Balan do Shobana's role was a big challenge for me as a director. To Vidya's credit, I should say that she worked very hard on her role, though there is a lot of difference between a genuine dancer and a filmy dancer. The role which Vidya did in Bhool Bhulaiya was tailor made for her. I realized that it would have been a grave mistake on my part if I had taken on Aishwarya Rai, as I had planned earlier instead of Vidya.
Why do you cast the same set of actors in your films again and again?
When the butter is at home, why should I search for ghee? I like to use complete actors like Paresh Rawal, Rajpal Yadav and Manoj Joshi who can do all kinds of roles. I am of the opinion that known devils are better than unknown angels.
You have no qualms to admit that you like to play to the gallery as a film maker?
My Dhol was a time pass film, which was rehashed from three Malayalam films– Manamathai, Mazhai Peyyunnu Madhalam Kottunnu and Chandralekha. So what if it did not click like some of my earlier films? I could not sit through the Hindi remake of my hit Malayalam film Chandralekha because Raj Kanwar who directed it mauled my original version very badly. With her grey-green eyes and oh-so-perfect mannerisms, Aishwarya Rai might look like a doll, but now it’s her chance to be immortalized in plastic. If all goes well, Ash might be the first Indian celebrity who will have a Barbie based on her. Sources said talks are on between the former beauty queen and Mattel Toys (India), though it might be a long time before this is finalised. Mattel Toys India spokesperson however denied any current plans of bringing out an Ash-inspired doll.
In the West, celebrity Barbies are a big hit with replicas of several screen goddesses and pop princesses like Diana Ross, Liz Taylor, Cher, Beyonce etc hitting the shelf.
There will also be another Indian connect to the world’s most iconic yet controversial doll. In her 50th year, she will make her presence felt on Indian ramps as well. At the Fashion Week that begins later this week, a ‘Barbie - All Doll’d’ up show is being organised, where selected designers will flaunt specially created couture outfits with Barbie as their muse. The show is part of the worldwide gala celebrations to commemorate Barbie’s half-century.
The doll, like most of her Hollywood inspirations, is a fashion icon with top Western designers such as Armani, Vera Wang and Versace among others draping her super-slim figure over the years. It might be time for an Indian designer to do so.
On Sunday, the first round of a unique contest was held; here a panel of judges evaluated some 75 designs sent by designers across the country.
These included upcoming names as well as industry hotshots. The judges - fashion photographer Farookh Chothia, image consultant Rita Dhody, former model Kamal Sidhu and show director Lubna Adams - selected nearly 30 designs which will be showcased in a fashion show. Along with it, leading stylists and artists will oversee hair, make-up, styling and an assembly of Barbie accessories to ensure each model reflects the doll’s signature styles from head to toe. The idea is to create a one-of-a-kind look that will present Barbie as a fashionista who is celebrating her birthday in India. Hence her design will definitely have an Indian touch.
And what was the basis for selecting the perfect outfit for Barbie? “Something that has a global appeal but with Indian elements in it,” says Lubna Adams. “While judging the designs, we were looking at something appropriate to dress Barbie on her birthday which would complement her image - sexy and feminine.”

A lot of people in the industry have been wondering why Aishwarya Rai has been working so hard lately, even as she balances her time between her two sets of parents at Jalsa (the Bachchans) and La Mer (the Rais).
Fact is, Aishwarya is in a hurry to finish up all her pending assignments, so that she can keep a part of the year 2010 free for family affairs, and that includes motherhood!
A source close to the couple said, “The two of them are fed up of relatives, strangers and relative strangers asking them when the stork is visiting. Secretly, they feel pressurised. It’s as if their parenthood is a public issue.
Even when they are at airports waiting to board flights, over-exuberant ladies rush to them with an inquisitive look on their eager faces.
Even before these fans open their mouth, Abhishek Bachchan knows exactly what the question is, and he gets visibly annoyed. Aishwarya handles such over-inquisitive attention far more graciously.”
Luckily, there has been absolutely no peer pressure on Abhishek or Aishwarya about parenthood from either side. Neither the Bachchans nor the Rais are the type who badger their children asking when will they start a family.
But Aishwarya already has a plan.
Parenthood will probably come next year, when she completes her pending assignments and that includes a parade of topnotch films including Vipul Shah’s Action Replay, Shankar’s Robot, Mani Ratnam’s Raavana and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Guzaarish, for which, Aishwarya starts shooting in Goa in August, followed by Abhinay Deo’s Crooked.
In addition to this, there are filmmakers like Rohan Sippy, Vishal Bharadwaj, Rituparno Ghosh and Ashutosh Gowariker who are patiently waiting in the queue to sign her.
The source added, “This is, no doubt, the busiest phase of Aishwarya’s career. Such a flurry of assignments has never been seen before in any married actress’ life and she’d be foolish to let such opportunities slip by. Luckily, Abhishek is thoroughly supportive of her career.
She wants to complete as many of these assignments as she can, before she becomes a mother. Because once she gets into that role, she wouldn’t want any other distractions. That, Aishwarya is sure of.”
